Important Update on Health Benefit Premiums Collection

I am writing to provide further context about the decision made by the ELHT (Employee Health Trust) OTIP Benefits services regarding the method of collecting health benefit premiums. I understand that changes like these can be concerning, so I wanted to take a moment to reassure you and provide some clarity on the matter. This was not an OSSTF decision but a decision made by the ELHT.

BackgroundThe ELHT has decided to transition from the current practice of capturing premiums through employer payroll deductions to a more streamlined process of direct payment. Instead of deducting premiums from your paycheck, the ELHT will now collect premiums through electronic funds transfer directly from your personal bank account. The amount coming out of your bank account will be the same amount you now have coming off your pay. For example, if you have a $29.04 deduction that will be the amount coming from your bank account.

Reasons for the Change:This decision is part of an ongoing effort to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of premium collection. By implementing direct payment through electronic funds transfer, the ELHT aims to reduce administrative complexities and ensure a more seamless process for both the union members and the trust. We understand that changes to payment methods can be unsettling, but I want to assure you that this decision was made after careful consideration of its impact on our members. The transition to electronic funds transfer is intended to simplify the premium collection process, making it more convenient and reliable for everyone involved.

Benefits of Electronic Funds Transfer:

  • Timely and Accurate Payments: Electronic funds transfer ensures that your health benefit premiums are deducted on time without any delays.

  • Reduced Administrative Burden: This change will streamline the premium collection process, minimizing the chances of errors and administrative challenges.

  • Improved Transparency: Members will have greater visibility into the premium payment process, with clear records of transactions available through your bank statements.

Next Steps:In the coming days, you will receive detailed instructions on how to set up electronic funds transfer for your health benefit premiums. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to our union office.Questions? If you have any questions or concerns regarding this information, please call OTIP Benefits Services at 1-866-783-6847.
