Important Health and Safety Information!!

Face Shields

The face shields provided by the UGDSB (through the Ministry of Education procurement department) have a finite life span of 15 (fifteen) individual uses. After the 15 (fifteen) days, the face shields integrity decreases, and they become less effective. This is a common issue with this type of PPE.

As a result, it is Your responsibility to replace your face shield after 15 (fifteen) individual uses. This means You may need to keep track of when the face shield needs to be replaced. The face shield is to be disposed of in a lined garbage can.

The face shields, along with all PPE (masks, gowns, and gloves), should be readily available and accessible for all UG staff. 

If you do not have open access to the PPE, talk to your supervisor/principal. This is your right and responsibility as a worker to address workplace health and safety issues.

Internal Responsibility System (IRS)


The IRS is a fundamental part of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA).

Everyone has a critical role to play in ensuring workplace safety.

Workers have the legal obligation to report all safety hazards to their supervisor or employer. Similarly, supervisors have the legal obligation to ensure all hazards are dealt with. Furthermore, employers must inform workers of potential workplace hazards and provide clear policies and procedures to address these issues.

If the Internal Responsibility System is followed, it provides a robust foundation for a safe and healthy workplace.
