EI and Retro pay and Vacation pay

We just want to remind members that you do not have to claim your vacation pay and retro payments when applying for EI. This will be captured in your ROE and is money already earned. If you claim it separately, you will have difficulty getting your EI claim approved promptly. The board will be processing the final pay (deposit July 9th) on July 5th or 6th and ROEs will be issued once processed. This payment will include the last days of the school year and the July 1st stat holiday. You do have to claim the July 1st stat when filing out the EI application.

French Language Professional Development Opportunity for ECEs

OSSTF/FEESO is a member of the French as a Second Language Labour Market Partnership Committee; a table of stakeholders in FSL education in Ontario tasked with exploring ways of addressing the supply gap in FSL educators in Ontario.

One of the goals of the funded projects of the FSL-LMPC is to explore professional learning opportunities that have a positive impact on educators’ knowledge, confidence, and French language proficiency in order to increase the retention of workers in FSL programs. For this next Phase of the Partnership, OSSTF/FEESO has submitted a proposal for expanding a pilot project from last year by offering an increased amount of money to an increased amount of members. The aim, again this year, is to provide a self-directed professional learning opportunity to Early Childhood Educators working within an FSL environment (extended or immersion). While the project approvals will not be official until sometime in July, We wanted to reach out prior to the end of this school year. The pilot project would fund ECEs taking an online course of their choosing to bolster their French language skills. This may be a very welcome (even essential) fit for you. If that is the case, please reach out to me ASAP for more information.

Upper Grand Employee Assistance Program

If you are finding yourself or a family member or a colleague is needing additional support or resources please refer to the board's employee and family assistance program. This service is free and confidential. The board is not given the names of members who are using the service. It has been a challenging year with COVID and many of us are dealing with other challenges unrelated to COVID. This resource may be of help to members who need it.
