President's Message Week 16

This year has brought unexpected challenges for all of us, and we thank you for all the effort and commitment you’ve shown as we adjusted in tough times. We wish you the very happiest and most peaceful of holidays and look forward to a new year that hopefully has a little less excitement than 2020 had to offer. Please stay safe and healthy.

Cheryl, Laura, Cindy and Julie and your ESSP/ECE Executive

FDK Changes

I did want to reach out to all ECEs in Kindergarten regarding the recent changes. I can appreciate for many of you this was another curveball in an already challenging year. Unfortunately, our hands are tied, as are the boards. I would agree, kindergarten students and staff were benefiting from this flexibility. I can assure you that every effort was made to maintain this temporary practice when social distancing is so important. ETFO did not agree that it was in keeping with the language in the Education Act around teacher roles and was unwilling to compromise temporarily regardless of the pandemic. This is not about ECE roles, in this regard nothing has changed or should change.

If you do want to discuss this further I would be happy to talk to you, give me a call. 519-835-0031

Upper Grand Employee Assistance Program

If you are finding yourself or a family member or a colleague is needing additional support or resources please refer to the board's employee and family assistance program. This service is free and confidential. The board is not given the names of members who are using the service. It has been a challenging year with COVID and many of us are dealing with other challenges unrelated to COVID. This resource may be of help to members who need it.
